NOTMAR Online Services
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) encourages all NOTMAR clients to
benefit from the NOTMAR online service available at
www.notmar.gc.ca. This
service provides clients with
Notices to Mariners:
- on a weekly and monthly basis through the NOTMAR online search
feature, where clients can simply select their chart numbers to review
and apply
Notices to Mariners - chart corrections (Section
II);
- through downloadable files (PDF) of the following publications:
* updated and maintained on a monthly basis.
The online service also provides its clients with an
archival system of
Notices to Mariners.
CCG has taken its service one step further, providing a
'personalized service' for each of its clients the
"NOTMAR user profile". This feature allows NOTMAR clients to
set up an account and register their nautical charts to receive
applicable
Notices to Mariners- Chart Corrections (Section II) right to
their inbox. With this free service, registrants are automatically
notified on a weekly or monthly basis by e-mail when
Notices to Mariners - Chart Corrections are published
affecting their charts. A 'back dated' feature has also been
implemented, in case clients are away for a period of time, they may
simply go into their profile and review their notices dated back for a
period of four weeks.

Responsibilities of the registered user

Canada Shipping Act, Charts and Nautical Publications Regulations ,
1995
CARRIAGE OF CHARTS, DOCUMENTS AND PUBLICATIONS
4.(1) Subject to subsection (2), the
master and owner of every ship shall have on
board, in respect of each area in which the ship is to be navigated,
the
most recent editions of the charts, documents and
publications that are required to be used under sections 5 and 6.
MAINTENANCE OF CHARTS, DOCUMENTS AND PUBLICATIONS
7.The
master of a ship shall ensure that the charts,
documents and publications required by these Regulations are, before
being used for navigation,
correct and up-to-date, based on information that is
contained in the
Notices to Mariners
, Notices to Shipping or radio navigational warnings.

- It is the responsibility of the registered user to manage and
review their personal profile to ensure it is maintained, active and up
to date.
- Should a NOTMAR account not be accessed over a one year period of
time, or should a registered email address become invalid: The Canadian
Coast Guard holds the right to deactivate your account, therefore
stopping future advisories until a request to reactivate has been made.
In order to reactivate your account it is the responsibility of the
registered user to contact the NOTMAR online team at
notmar@dfo-mpo.gc.ca
requesting a reactivation. Accounts that are deactivated for a period
of 3 years will be removed from the NOTMAR online service.
- It is the responsibility of the registered user to change the
registered password should they feel or know that their personal
password is known by someone else.
- It is the responsibility of the registered user to frequently
review the chart selections in their personal profile to ensure all
selected charts are appearing correctly and are activated.
- It is the responsibility of the registered user to ensure the
NOTMAR administrator email account (
notmar@dfo-mpo.gc.ca) is not
identified as SPAM mail through their personal software tools and/or
Internet Service Providers.
- It is the responsibility of the registered user to add new charts
to their profile when chart numbers have been withdrawn and/or replaced
by a new chart (chart number) issued by the Canadian Hydrographic
Services ( CHS ). Mariners are informed of these changes in
Section I of the Monthly, Notices to Mariners or by visiting
the
CHS -
Replaced and Withdrawn website. When a chart number is
discontinued the NOTMAR online service automatically removes:
- the old
Notices to Mariners- Chart Correction (Section II) notices
from the search engine database, (or when a new edition is
released)
- the chart number from the selection list; and
- from the user profiles as it is no longer a 'current' chart.

monthly Notice to Mariners editions:

prior to starting this process. If the
address is identified as SPAM from your internet service provider you
will not receive your activation email or the services you subscribed
for. **
Visit
www.notmar.gc.ca/go.php?doc=eng/index and simply click on
"Receive complete Monthly
Notices to Mariners editions" displayed on the left side menu
under "Subscribe to email notification services".
You will be requested to review and accept the NOTMAR Waiver of
Responsibility prior to setting up a personal profile. If the Legal
Disclaimer is not accepted you will be prevented from creating a
profile.
Step 1)
Registering your email address
You must enter the email address where you wish to receive your
Notices to Mariners.
Step 2) Final step:
Activating your personal profile
You will receive a NOTMAR activation email at your registered
email address. You must click the "activate" link in the email to start
receiving your Monthly
Notices to Marinerspublications electronically. You will then
be presented with the following message on your screen "Your
subscription to receive the Monthly Notices to Mariners publications
has been successfully activated".
Note: Depending on the various internet service providers and
site traffic, there can often be a delay of a few hours prior to
receiving your activation email.

Should you no longer wish to receive our Notices to Mariners
email notification personalized services you may unsubscribe by
clicking on
"Unsubscribe from Complete monthly Notices to Mariners
editions" located on the service menu at
www.notmar.gc.ca.

Notices to Mariners. **
Step 1)
Accessing the "Create User Profile" setup page
Visit
www.notmar.gc.ca/go.php?doc=eng/index and simply click on
"Create User Profile" displayed on the left side menu under
"online services".
You will be requested to review and accept the NOTMAR Privacy
Statement and the NOTMAR - Waiver of Responsibility prior to setting up
a personal profile. If the Privacy Statement and Legal Disclaimer are
not accepted you will be prevented from creating a profile.
Step 2)
Registering your email address and personal password
You must first enter the email address where you wish to receive
your
Notices to Mariners. Then choose a personal password that
should not be shared with anyone and that will be required each time
you wish to access your profile. Re-enter the same email address and
password for confirmation purposes.
Step 3)
Selecting charts to receive Section II chart correction notices
by email
A drop down box will appear. This box lists all nautical in which
Notices to Mariners correspond to at the time of
registering.
In order to benefit from this online service you will need to
select specific charts in which you wish to receive Section II Chart
Correction
Notices to Mariners on. These notices will be issued and
sent to you by email based on the charts you select.
You may select as many charts as you wish, by double clicking on
the chart number in the drop down list. To ensure your selections have
been successful, a list of your charts will appear on screen with a
check mark in the box below the chart number. It is
essential that you review this list to
ensure all your nautical charts have been properly selected.
If you need to remove a chart from your selection, remove the
check mark associated with the chart number you wish to remove and
click the link "Remove unchecked charts from list".
Remember to click "submit charts" in order to save these
changes to your profile.
Once all charts have been selected at the bottom of the screen
you are
required to click on "Submit Charts".
Step 4)
Setting up your notification preferences and activating your
NOTMAR profile
Next select and submit your notification preferences (i.e.
notification frequency - weekly/monthly and language preference), then
click "Submit Notification Preferences". The "manage Profile" page will
display a summary of the information you have submitted as part of your
registered profile.
You must click on the "Create Profile" button to complete your
profile setup.
Please note: Your NOTMAR personal profile is not
activated until you receive your Activation email and respond by
clicking on the activation link.
Step 5) Final step:
Activating your personal profile
You will receive a NOTMAR activation email at your registered
email address. You must click the "activate" link in the email to start
receiving your Section II - Chart correction
Notices to Mariners.
Note: Depending on the various internet service providers and
site traffic, there can often be a delay of a few hours prior to
receiving your activation email.

Maintaining your NOTMAR
profile
Once you have created your personal NOTMAR profile you can view
or modify it at any time by visiting the NOTMAR site at
http://www.notmar.gc.ca/.
To access your profile, click on
"Sign In to
your NOTMAR Profile" located on the side menu under
"Registered users".
Your personal email address and password are required in order to
access your online profile.
Click "Edit my profile", you will have the options to change your
email address, password, add/remove charts and manage your notification
preferences.
If modifying your chart selections, click on "add and delete
charts". A drop down box will appear. This box lists all nautical
charts in which Notices to Mariners correspond to at the present time.
In order to benefit from this online service you will need to
select specific charts in which you wish to receive Section II Chart
Correction
Notices to Mariners on. These notices will be issued and
sent to you by email based on the charts you select.

Forgot Password
If you have forgotten your password, click on the "Sign-in to
your NOTMAR Profile" located on the side menu bar and at the bottom of
the sign-in screen is a
"Forgot your password" link. Click on this link and enter the
registered email address. You will receive an email advising you of
your password for your account in order to access it. You are strongly
encouraged to change your password when signing in to your profile.

Weekly/Monthly Email
Notifications
The registered user will receive e-mail notifications on a
weekly/monthly basis whether or not the charts in the registered user
profile have been affected by
Notices to Mariners, Section II - Chart Corrections.
These email notifications will come from the NOTMAR administrator
account (
notmar@dfo-mpo.gc.ca)
If your charts were affected the NOTMAR online service will
provide the registered user with a listing of charts found in their
profile that have been affected by
Notices to Mariners Section II - Chart Corrections. The
registered user may click on the chart numbers affected to receive the
notices for that week/month.
At any time, if you suspect a problem with your notifications,
please contact the NOTMAR online team at
notmar@dfo-mpo.gc.ca to
investigate.
Reminder:
The law requires
mariners to maintain and update their nautical charts and publications
on a regular basis, by applying all sections (1 to 5) of the Notices to
Mariners publication.
Reviewing the Section II notices
that have affected your charts by visiting notmar.gc.ca and accessing
your personal NOTMAR profile
Once you
sign in to
your profile, your "personal Profile" page will appear. This page
will list all of the charts within your profile that have been affected
by the current week's Section II notices.
A
'back-dated' feature has been provided to
allow users to select a particular time frame dating back 4 weeks or
less. When selecting these dates, you will be able to view the Section
II
Notices to Mariners affecting your charts for that time
period.
For weekly notification recipients, the 'back dated' feature
provides you with an added service where you can select the "All
affected charts" option and this feature will display all of the charts
within your profile, which have been affected by Section II Chart
Corrections Notices to Mariners within the last 4 weeks.
You must click on each of the chart numbers displayed on the
screen to obtain the Section II notices affecting each of your charts.
The
"edit my profile" link provided on your
"personal profile" page is used to modify your profile settings. You
will have an option to "add/delete charts" from your profile at any
time through this service.
When changing your chart selections you must ensure you click
"submit charts" for the system to accept your changes.
The
"show all charts" link also provided on
the "personal profile" page will display all of the charts which are
listed within your profile and all active Section II
Notices to Marinerspertaining to these charts. To view reports
for each chart click on the chart number and a report will
automatically generate displaying all of the active notices affecting
that chart number.
Changing the registered email
address and password
Should you change (ISP) internet service providers or simply have
changed your email address, you can change your current email address
by logging in to your
personal
profile, click "edit my profile" and click "change email". Enter
new email address, then click "update". Review the new registered email
address for your profile to ensure it appears correctly.
Unsubscribe from Chart
Updates
Should you no longer wish to receive your personalized Notices to
Mariners service you may unsubscribe your personal profile by clicking
on
"Unsubscribe from NOTMAR online" located on the service menu
at
www.notmar.gc.ca.
